USAID/TSHIP Nigeria’s documentary “No Nigerian Left Behind” was recently featured in a Wall Street Journal article highlighting Melinda Gates’s work to promote low-tech solutions, such as breastfeeding and “kangaroo care,” to reduce newborn deaths in the first months of life. The documentary showcases the use of antiseptic gel to prevent cord infections in newborns combined with the use of Misoprostol tablets to prevent excessive bleeding in mothers after delivery. These two community-level programs have saved thousands of lives in Sokoto State, Nigeria.
