The USAID | DELIVER PROJECT (the project) and the state health missions (SHMs) of four states in India developed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for essential medicines management. In June 2015, the project started SOP trainings for health-facility staff in two pilot districts in these states. Training alone, however, is not enough to develop capacity. With this in mind, the project created a checklist for SHM staff to use during supportive supervision visits. This brief discusses the improvements that came about through supportive supervision, and addresses the continuing challenges in managing health commodities.
